These are the 12 wines we discovered in 2025 that inspired us most. At various tastings our team tasted over 600 wines throughout the year and we always rate them based on quality, value and the ‘Would I want another glass’ scale which rates from 1–10, with 10 being highest. It was hard of course to narrow it to just 12 wines, but we are delighted to present what we see as the 12 best wines in Independent retail in Ireland in 2025. There are 6 reds and 6 whites and they are available as a mixed dozen with 15% off, with one bottle of each wine, while stocks last. For the first time you can also order a 6 or 12 bottle case of all reds, or all whites too.
Please note: the All Red 6 bottle case photo shows Fidèle L'Ombra de Quéribus, but the case contains Domaine Alary Tradition Cairanne, as listed below.
Domaine de La Provenquiere Vermentino
Herault, France
Mediterranean sunshine in a bottle! zesty citrus, ripe pear and white peach, with delicate floral notes and a lovely mineral freshness on the finish. Bright, elegant and incredibly easy to drink, but has enough texture and personality to make it feel genuinely premium — a superb choice for anyone who loves crisp, vibrant whites with a touch of Provençal flair.
Heaphy Pinot Gris,
Nelson, New Zealand
One of the star favourite wines at our Summer Wine Festival in June 2026. Fragrant, beautifully textured and packed with ripe pear, peach and apricot fruit, it has a combination of generosity and freshness that makes the glass incredibly moreish. The old Moutere vines and cool, sunny Nelson climate give it real depth and character, while the elegant acidity keeps everything wonderfully fresh. It's Pinot Gris with substance, personality and genuine New Zealand pedigree — and the 93-point critical endorsement makes it an exceptionally compelling buy.
Fiano di Avellino, Casino Nitti
Campania, Italy
One of our favourite new finds came from a tasting in August 2026 we attended. Campania’s volcanic soils, sea breezes and diverse microclimates create wines of remarkable character and elegance. This expressive white offers delicate aromas of broom, acacia, chamomile and mandarin, followed by a rich, vibrant palate with balanced acidity, freshness and an exceptionally long finish. Incredible at this pricepoint.
Bouza do Rei Albarino
Rias Baixas, Spain
One of 14 founding wineries of Rias Baixas, Winegrower & Owner Isodoro is the head of the Rias Baizas appellation board. He’s a lifelong winegrower and winemaker and his wines are platinum standard Albarino. Along with his son Pablo, they craft some of the best wines in the appellation, which we import exclusively into Ireland. These are Albarino’s that age well too.
Unlike some ultra-lean Albariños, Isodoro & Pablo purposefully include a bit more "press wine". This technique lends a fuller body, greater depth of flavor, and a smooth, oily, well-balanced texture.
Gasper SviPinot Pinot Grigio
Goriška Brda, Slovenia
During a two day visit to Northern Italy, Croatia and Slovenia in June we came across this wine, our favourite of the three days. Gašper Pinot Grigio is a beautifully elegant Slovenian white, combining ripe pear and citrus fruit with refreshing acidity, subtle minerality and a silky texture. A step above the norm, it offers both freshness and richness, with impressive length and finesse.
Domaine de La Pellehaut Reserve Rosé
Gascony, France
We’ve long been fans of Domaine de Pellehaut wines for their low alcohol and rounded flavours, but this year saw the release of their first ever Réserve Rosé. It's is a sophisticated, gastronomic rosé with more complexity than the flagship Rosé and is only made in small amounts. It has expressive strawberry and raspberry fruits, subtle floral and citrus notes, and a beautifully rounded, concentrated palate. Elegant, fresh and wonderfully versatile — a rosé with real depth rather than just refreshment. Think of prestige Rosé from Provence with half the price tag - it’s that good and deserves it’s place at the top table.
Cambon La Pelouse Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux
Medoc Cru Bourgeois, France
Seriously impressive from an outstanding Bordeaux vintage. It combines ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with cedar, tobacco, graphite and subtle spice, backed by beautifully polished tannins and fresh acidity. The 2018 warmth gives it richness and generosity, but it still has the classic Médoc structure and elegance—making it drinking beautifully now In short. Genuine class and complexity without the price tag of the famous classified growths.
Vaquos Consecha Ribera del Duero
Valladolid, Spain
Ever fancy a full bodied wine that is light on its feet? Very pure, elegant fruit, with structured tannins and a light touch of oak. This is a superb expression of 100% Tempranillo from the region’s prestigious Golden Mile, made from vines over 35 years old. Rich, intense and beautifully structured, it combines ripe red fruit, spice and subtle oak with silky tannins and impressive elegance. It is imperative that this is on your wine rack!
Adrian Serrano Rioja Reserva
Autol, Rioja Oriental, Spain
Beautifully mature and elegant Rioja, with generous red-berry fruit, warm spice, vanilla and subtle cocoa. Aged for 24 months in French and American oak, it is velvety and well-structured, with soft tannins and a long, satisfying finish.
It’s one of our favourites for its consistency, balance and supple tannins.
Domaine Alary Tradition Cairanne
Rhone Valley, France
In January 2026, we welcomed the wines of Domaine Alary to our portfolio. In March, we welcomed Jean Etienne to Dublin to showcase the wines. With a modern take on how grapes should be treated, Jean Etienne has taken the reins from his father Denis and continued their reputation as one of the boldest and best producers in the region. We are humbled to be the agent importer of these wines for they are some of the best Rhone wines being made today. Rich and velvety with ripe blackberry, black fruit, liquorice and Provençal spice. Silky tannins, freshness and an impressively long finish give it a wonderful balance of richness and elegance. It also received three stars and a Coup de Cœur from the Guide Hachette. (Please note: the All Red case photo shows Fidèle L'Ombra de Quéribus in place of this wine. The case contains Domaine Alary Tradition Cairanne.)
Robert Mondavi Vint Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley, USA
Nothing beats a cloud with silver lining. Destined for the high skies, this wine was due to be served on airlines across Europe during 2026. With Uncertainty surrounding flights in the Middle East, the wine was grounded and made its way to Ireland instead. It has Classic California richness — packed with ripe blackberry, cherry and cassis, layered with vanilla, toasted oak and mocha. Smooth, generous and beautifully rounded, it delivers impressive depth and a long, silky finish. It is structured and wonderful, and available at 40% off, making it an incredibly accessible price point at €13 this while stocks last.
Castello di Brolio Chanti Classico
Tuscany, Italy
Castello di Brolio Chianti Classico is a true Tuscan icon — the flagship wine of the historic Ricasoli estate. Rich and elegant, with ripe cherry, plum, spice and subtle vanilla, it combines impressive structure and polished tannins with freshness and a long, refined finish. Produced only in the best vintages, it’s a serious, age-worthy expression of Chianti Classico. At just €27 it’s one of the best value Chianti Classico wines of its class aswell. Chianti is brilliantly food friendly and will pair with pizzas, pastas and roast meats also, or classically, with an antipasti board of meats and cheeses.
*From time to time vintages/wines may become unavailable, it is rare but in this instance we will replace the wine with a similar wine of equal or greater value.
